LEGEND OF THE SUB
In September of 1969, Clark “Pops” Greene opened the Oswego Sub Shop on the corner of West Bridge and West 8th Streets – where it still stands today. “Pops” offered 10 varieties of Sub Sandwiches featuring family recipes for ingredients such as the famous Sub Oil & Vinegar, Meatballs, Marinara Sauce and Home-Cooked Roast Beef. His passion for quality food and friendly service proved to be the foundation of his rapid success.
In time, “Pops” turned ownership of the Oswego Sub Shop over to his son, Bill Greene Sr., who operated the restaurant for 35 years. Over the years, Bill Sr. responded to his customers’ needs by expanding the shop’s hours of operation & delivery service, as well as adding many new items to the menu – including dozens of new hot & cold Subs, Salads, Deli Sandwiches, French Fries and Chocolate Chip Cookies. Among these new selections was the Oswego Sub Shop’s legendary Cheeseburger Sub, which soon became a favorite among the local residents and college students. Bill Sr. also became known as a generous supporter of the community, and the Oswego Sub Shop established a long tradition of sponsorships for numerous local sports teams and community groups.
THE LEGEND CONTINUES
In 2002, Bill Greene Jr. accepted the reins of the business from his father and became the third generation owner of the Oswego Sub Shop. Although the restaurant was as popular as ever, Bill Jr. set into motion a comprehensive renovation which was completed in 2009 with outstanding results. The Oswego Sub Shop had been substantially expanded to allow for a larger dining area, state of the art kitchen equipment, and an in-house bakery. The Oswego Sub Shop continues to feature a menu with over 65 varieties of subs, wraps and sandwiches – as well as salads, soups, chicken wings, side dishes and fresh-baked desserts.
The quality of our ingredients continues to be the focus of everything we serve – from the premium deli meats, cheeses and fresh produce which are sliced & prepared daily – to the bread, rolls and desserts that are made every day in our on-site bakery.
